A Kitten’s Cry: How One Child’s Compassion Sparked a Community’s Courage
We planned a quiet weekend at my aunt’s farm—blue skies, chickens pecking in the yard, and maybe some muddy boots from the kids chasing goats. But what started as a peaceful getaway turned into something much more meaningful.
That morning, my daughter Maeve came to me, cradling a tiny black-and-white kitten in her arms. “He was crying by the shed,” she said softly. Her hands trembled.
At first, I assumed the kitten had wandered away from a barn cat’s litter. But when I looked closer, my heart sank. A thin string was tied tightly around his neck, leaving a deep mark in his fur. It had clearly been there for days.
I asked Maeve where she’d found him. “By the fence,” she whispered, her eyes full of worry.
